October Newsletter

Dear 2W Families,

The students and I have been very busy getting our classroom routines established and focusing on diving into our learning together.  The weather is getting colder, so please make sure your student has all the items they need for outdoor recess.

In math, the students just wrapped up Chapter 1, which was all about place value.  Next, we will be learning how to add multi-digit numbers with and without regrouping.  The more students practice the steps of adding and regrouping, the easier it will be.  Also, studying their simple addition and subtraction facts nightly will ensure that they are accurate in their work.

Solving unknown words has been our focus during Reader’s Workshop.  The students are learning and practicing strategies to solve words they may not know or be able to decode.  The children have also been practicing choosing “just right” books to read during independent reading time.  Choosing books that fit their skill level will help them to become better readers.

The children have been doing a wonderful job of passing in their homework on time.  Just a few reminders, please have your student pass in their reading log EVERY DAY!!!  Their homework should be completed in pencil and I have reminded the students to bring a pencil home at the end of the day if they do not have one at home.  The class has discussed how we all make mistakes, so doing our work in pencil helps us to correct those and learn from the mistakes we make.

Happy Birthday to…
